about

Sangoma Records presents “Polymorphia”- the new 4-track EP by Nulla Taar, from Greece. Not often do we come across such raw talent filled with musical ideas shaped with prime production that bewildered us in many ways. Still, George Tsafaridis is no newcomer, he has already been twisting some heads as part of the project Purple Shapes. To put it in his own words: “My goal when I created the Nulla Taar project was to create something new and experimental but euphonious and easy to listen to for people who’ve not been listening to experimental music.” Lysergic cinema for your head and ears.

>> A Message from Nulla Taar <<

“Polymorphia” is the first half of an album I’ve been producing for the last two years.
The word “Polymorphia” comes from the Greek words “Poly” which means many and “Morph” which means shape or form. This EP is inspired by many forms of psychedelic music ranging from ancient tribal music from Africa to Jazz-Blues, Psychedelic Rock to Psytrance. My goal when I created the Nulla Taar project was to create something new and experimental yet euphonious and easy to listen to for people who’ve not been listening to experimental music.

The first track is called “Lost Paths” and it’s about the main struggles a modern human is experiencing as a price for his comforts, like Depression, Anxiety, and Social Isolation. It features odd key changes which mirror the sudden mood changes of a person who’s struggling psychologically and hasn’t found the way to his path yet. The purpose of this track is just to point out some issues we may sometimes face, as this is always the first step for going forward.
It also features a vocal sample from the movie “Joker”.

The second track called “Cuckoo’s Nest” is inspired by another iconic movie “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” which goes deep into psychological realms. This track is about those who haven’t been able to face their issues and got lost in psychological isolation. This track also features odd key changes but reaches a stable stage at some point unlike “Lost Paths”. This part symbolizes anger which sometimes is the only way we know to cleanse ourselves from the burden we have. In the final part, it reaches the climax of an angry cleansing and fades out with a confusing mellow soundscape, which mirrors the confusion we feel after an emotionally draining activity.

The third track called “Peculiar Pt.1” is a totally experimental track that features Euclidean rhythms played in a Drum Kit followed by Indian mantras and modular sounds and hasn't any beat. “Peculiar” in Greek is translated as “ιδιόμορφος” which means “of the same morph”, or “ιδιόρρυθμος” which means “of the same rhythm” and It’s the main theme of both parts of the album.
This track is about the hard-way confrontation which we all came across at some point in our lives, which sometimes is inevitable yet essential and helpful for us to move forward. It features uncomfortable sounds and rhythms but also ecstatic ones, which points out the essence of contrast, love inside confusion.

The fourth track called “Peculiar Pt.2 (Polymorphia)” is a 12-minute long track and in this case, it’s a wordplay irony. The irony is that something that has a repetitive beat for 12 minutes can in fact be “of the same rhythm” but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t many morphs. Sometimes in life, we have the impression that we should get rid of negative feelings like anger, sadness, or whatever and just live without them, which after all, some may realize it’s impossible. Acknowledging addressing and accepting, may help you realize that we need the whole spectrum of emotions to live and all of them can give us something positive. They’re essential to our survival we just have to look at them as tools. If you acknowledge and address your fears subjectively, you undress them and see them for what they are.
